JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
JOB TITLE: Marine Program Director
DIVISION: Marine Programs Division
REPORTS TO: Senior Director, Marine Programs Division
LOCATION: Washington, D.C.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Marine Program Director will be the lead staff member
to ensure that the Defying Ocean's End (DOE) Conference recommendations are
implemented in CI initiatives and multi-NGO partnerships. Lead responsibilities
will involve developing strategies, assisting initiatives by the organizational
partners in DOE implementation, and facilitating collaborative efforts on
recommended actions and suggested next steps identified by the Conference. The
Director will have a key role in marketing and in fundraising for DOE programs.
This position involves creative thinking to build effective coalitions within
the broader domestic and international environmental community. The core work
of this position will be the development and implementation of DOE
recommendations by coalitions of organizations, to achieve successful
fulfillment of the DOE goals. This will require a consistent and innovative
approach to deal with complex substantive issues and political relationships.
The principal responsibilities of this position will be: development of the
business plan and fundraising, administration of DOE campaigns for recommended
actions and external communication and marketing.
EDUCATION: Advanced degree in marine science, environmental studies, law or
government policy
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have a minimum of five years experience with
ocean science research institutions, government agencies or NGOs working on
relevant policy issues, budget administration and fundraising. Experience
should demonstrate accomplishment in government policy development, campaign
implementation for policy change with governments and non-governmental partners
and fiscal authority of large and complex programs and fundraising. Foreign
language, field experience and media skills are desirable.
