Coral Reef Conservation Partners:
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Natural Resources Conservation
Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service, will hold a Workshop on Federal (and other)
Grant Opportunities Related to Coral Reef Ecosystems in Puerto Rico and
the U.S. Virgin Islands. These Workshops are sponsored by members of the
U.S. Coral Reef Task Force to provide information on funding opportunities
available to help address the conservation and management of coral reef
ecosystems (from watersheds to reefs).
The Puerto Rico Workshop will be held on 2 to 3 August 2, 2005 at the
Embassy Suites, San Juan, while the Virgin Islands Workshop will be held
on 3 and 4 August 2005, at the Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Marriott
Beach Resort, on St. Thomas. Space is limited. To attend, please contact
Ms. Laura Maloof by July 8 (email: Laura_Maloof at fws.gov or telephone:
404/679-7154).
The goal of the Workshop is to provide specific information about what
grants may be available for priority coral reef projects in the
territories as well as offer specific examples and skills for preparing a
successful grant application. The Workshop is divided into three parts:
(1) review priority needs identified in Local Action Strategies and other
plans related to conservation of coral reef ecosystems, (2) present
information on federal grant opportunities that may help address these
needs, and (3) provide examples of successful applications and answer
questions regarding grant applications.
The Workshop will provide information on a wide variety of grant programs
addressing issues and projects in watersheds, coastal areas, and various
coral reef habitats. Workshop attendees will have the opportunity to work
directly with representatives from federal granting agencies on how to
prepare a successful grant application or answer other questions.
We look forward to working with you to advance conservation and management
of valuable coral reef ecosystems.
