Coral Reef Ecosystem Studies FY 2007
(Deadline is 3:00PM EST November 13, 2006)
NOAA's Center for Sponsored Coastal Ocean Research (CSCOR) is soliciting
proposals that seek a better understanding of the underlying processes
that regulate coral reefs and associated ecosystems. Findings from this
research must directly support resource management decisions and involve
the use of predictive models.
Program Priorities:
1. Coral Reef Ecosystem Studies (CRES) -- CSCOR is interested in a
large-scale regional ecosystem study of the West Florida Shelf (WFS).
CSCOR will give consider proposals that address more than one key
environmental issue (e.g., hypoxia, fisheries, watershed-based impacts,
etc.) that are critical to the WFS Ecosystem in an integrated framework
that will provide recommendations for alternative management
strategies. Coordination with planned or ongoing research on the WFS is
strongly encouraged. Preference will be given to proposals that also
address social and economic aspects throughout their research
framework. One project is expected to be funded at no more that $1M/yr
for up to 5 years.
2. Deep-water Coral Reef Ecosystem Studies (DeepCRES) -- CSCOR continues
its interest in research that focuses deep water (50 -- 100 m)
hermatypic coral reefs. The target area includes the State of Hawaii
and Pacific Islands under jurisdiction of the United States. Proposals
should address research that looks at regulating processes, examines
potential of deep reefs as refugia, assesses their vulnerability to
human disturbance, and examines potential management strategies. One
project incorporating one or more Pacific Islands is expected to be
funded at no more than $500K/yr for up to 3 years.
