Dear Coral List,
As some of you may be aware, the Coral Disease Working Group of GEF's
Coral Reef Targeted Research Program and collaborators, have produced
two new resources the (i) Coral Disease Handbook: Guidelines for
Assessment, Monitoring and Management, and; (ii)Underwater Cards for
Assessing Coral Health for Indo-Pacific and Caribbean Reefs. The
publications are designed for management and research professionals with
an interest in monitoring coral reef disease and coral reef health. The
Handbook outlines procedures for describing signs, measuring disease
impacts, monitoring disease outbreaks, assessing possible causes and
managing reefs to minimize losses due to disease. The Handbook aims to
integrate critical, current scientific information about coral disease
to support and strengthen coral reef management. The Underwater Cards
are designed to aide divers in the identification of various diseases
and other compromised states of health. These cards also include a
color-coded decision tree to assist with navigation through the cards.
The step-by-step approach enables users to assess the health status of a
coral and observations can be recorded on a reusable data sheet provided
at the end of the card set.
These products are available from the CRTR Program website at
www.gefcoral.org/publications for US$20 each plus postage (AUD$24.20).
Please note that no profit will be obtained from the sale of these
products, and money earned will be utilized to cover cost of production.
Kind Regards,
