Position Announcement
Resident Lecturer in Environmental Policy and Socioeconomic Values
Center for Marine Resource Studies
Turks & Caicos Islands, B.W.I.
Position Summary:
* Teach the Environmental Policy and Socio-economic Values course, and
one third of the summer course.
* Lead designated components of the Center's Five-Year Research Plan
and as part of this; oversee, mentor, and grade the student directed
research projects that relate to these research lines.
* Serve as part of a team that delivers an interdisciplinary, hands-on
learning experience to students spending a semester or summer abroad.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Ph.D. and University-level teaching experience in Environmental
Policy, Socio-Economics, Anthropology, Sociology, Environmental/Ecological
Economics, Community Development/Planning or similar field.
* Extensive field research experience, preferably in the fields of
sustainable community development; cultural anthropology, or ethnography.
* Demonstrated ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary
teaching and research team
* Good track record of research publications
* Proven track record of grant writing success
* Current first aid certification
Preferred Qualifications:
* Demonstrated experience working in collaboration with small island
governments
* Demonstrated commitment to environmental issues
* Residential student group management and risk management experience
highly desirable
Other Expectations:
* Willingness to work flexible hours and live on site at the field
station with a small team of permanent staff, groups of US undergraduate
students and visiting researchers or programs, and participate in all center
activities
* Represent SFS at local and international conferences
* At all times, work to ensure good relations between the SFS and the
local community
Start Date: July 1, 2009
Salary: Salary ranges from $27,000 - $29,000 USD depending on experience and
qualifications, plus excellent benefits, on-site room and board, and
relocation assistance.
