Suwan asked for comments so here goes. If bleaching is caused by high
water temperature I question what removing swimmers will accomplish?
Will body temperature further increase water temp? If they are not
standing on or touching corals (and not urinating excessively) what
is accomplished by excluding swimmers? Allowing swimmers may in fact
be good education because it would allow more people to see bleaching
for themselves even though at present there is nothing beneficial
they can do other than give more money to the park. I know the heart
is in the right place but I suspect this is simply a public relations
action aimed at giving the appearance of doing something beneficial.
It makes us all feel better. Gene
