Hi all, the new department at the University of Trinidad and Tobago is looking to invite applications for several faculty positions. These positions include: 1) Professor in Natural Resource Economist2) Associate Professor in Oceanography3) Assistant Professor in Remote Sensing and GIS4) Technical Assistant II - RS/GIS5) Programme Officer for Marine and Environmental Studies Any persons interested in any of the positions, please contact Dr Reia Guppy (marine.sciences at utt.edu.tt) for further information. 1) Professor in Natural Resource EconomistSuccessful candidate must be able to:
Participate in the compilation and development of curricula;
Supervise student research papers;
Review student research papers at both undergraduate and post graduate
levels and act as an evaluator and participate in defense boards;
Compile methodological materials and teaching aids for subject areas;
Participate in the training process of a new generation of researchers in
his/her area of expertise;
Lead academic research projects/ programmes;
Develop and maintain relationships with other universities, research
institutions and companies;
Participate in research conferences and seminars;
Submit reports on teaching activities, publications and research;
Provide service to the University and/or community/society. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Earned Ph.D. from a recognized University with specialization in Natural
Resource Economics or closely associated field;
At least ten (10) years of experience in fisheries management and or stock
assessment and or contemporary knowledge of multispecies modeling, together
with an awareness of national and regional issues with regard to management of
shared marine and coastal resources;
A minimum of three (3) years active teaching and research activities in an
institution of higher learning;
Demonstrated scholarly activity - Publications/presentations/research (Min
12 refereed publications post Ph.D.);
Demonstrated theoretical and professional knowledge of the discipline;
Demonstrated competence with course content;
Sound knowledge and demonstrated application of pedagogy;
Knowledge of Research Methodologies;
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication;
In-depth understanding and application of statistical methods as these
pertain to the area of expertise. 2) Associate Professor in OceanographyIndividual will be expected to develop and deliver traditional undergraduate and graduate courses in the
area of Physical Oceanography and inputs into courses that consider the effects
of climate change on island coastal and oceanic processes.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Earned Ph.D. from a recognized University with specialization in Physical
Oceanography or closely associated field;
In-depth knowledge of state-of-the-art methods in physical oceanography and
practical research experience would be an asset;
A minimum of three (3) years active teaching and research activities in an
institution of higher learning;
Demonstrated scholarly activity - Publications/presentations/research (Min 3
refereed publications post Ph.D.);
Demonstrated theoretical and professional knowledge of the discipline;
Demonstrated competence with course content;
Sound knowledge and demonstrated application of pedagogy;
Knowledge of Research Methodologies;
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication;
Demonstrated understanding and application of statistical methods.
3) ASSISTANT PROFESSOR – REMOTE SENSING/GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS
(RS/GIS)
Main duties include the development and delivery of traditional undergraduate and graduate courses in
RS/GIS as related to Maritime and Coastal Environments and Sustainable Resource
Management, and lead research projects and programmes in the field of study.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Earned Ph.D. from a recognized University with at least 5 years
specialization in Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems or associated
field;
In-depth knowledge of state-of-the-art methods in RS and or GIS data
management and manipulation is essential;
Broad practical experience in the application of remotely sensed data to
marine environments, their mapping and management would be considered and asset;
A minimum of three (3) years active teaching and research activities in an
institution of higher learning;
Demonstrated scholarly activity - Publications/presentations/research (Min 3
refereed publications post Ph.D.);
Demonstrated theoretical and professional knowledge of the discipline;
Demonstrated competence with course content;
Sound knowledge and demonstrated application of pedagogy;
Knowledge of Research Methodologies;
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication;
Demonstrated understanding and application of statistical methods.
4) Technical Assistant II - RS/GISThe successful candidate must be able to:
Prepare workshop specimens;
Set up equipment for practical exercises;
Instruct and demonstrate to students during workshop or laboratory
exercises, inclusive of the use of tools and equipment;
Provide guidance, coaching and feedback to students;
Provide reports and feedback to instructor/professor;
Develop and implement a maintenance programme; perform basic maintenance on
specialist equipment and ensure external maintenance contracts are sustained;
Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all materials, tools and equipment;
Operate specialist equipment;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Technical Diploma / Advanced Technical Diploma in RS/GIS (BSc/MSc in RS/GIS
will be advantageous) with at least five (5) years relevant work experience;
Experience in RS/GIS data acquisition, manipulation and storage are
essential;
Sound knowledge of relevant software, hardware and lab equipment to be used
in laboratory exercises;
Ability to instruct;
Ability to work effectively in teams;
Sound oral and written communication skills;
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite. 5) Programme Officer for Marine and Environmental StudiesThe successful candidate must be able to:
Coordinate and schedule projects, events, office activities, meetings and
special assignments;
Prepare various reports and presentations;
Identify administrative needs and develop appropriate solutions or
recommendations;
Analyze procedures and workflows and recommend improvements;
Efficiently supervise management of the department’s records ensuring
execution of legal agreements under direction of counsel, administrative
management of contracts and supervision of procurement records;
Liaise with various units to source and disseminate information;
Interpret and apply laws, rules and regulations applicable to the
organization;
Perform such other related duties that may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE &COMPETENCIES:
A Bachelor’s degree preferably in a scientific discipline;
A minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience;
Accounting and shorthand skills will be an asset;
Proficient in office management, annual report and programme validation
document etc.;
Sound knowledge of the University’s business/environment and policies and
procedures;
Sound knowledge of the Unit’s systems and processes;
Sound knowledge of the MS office suite/related software;
Knowledge of research methodologies and conducting research/surveys;
Excellent interpersonal, communication, written and verbal skills;
Meticulous and pays particular attention to details;
Strong team building skills, ability to be flexible and adapt to changing
priorities;
Effective project management skills;
