Dear List,
I have a serious matter to bring before the group!
For years I have been quite happy calling our Caribbean coral Acropora
cervicornis, Staghorn coral. I have also been quite content to call
Acropora palmata, Elkhorn coral.
Now I live in Arizona and have seen a male elk with antlers in my
backyard. Those antlers are NOT what A. palmata looks like.
I also have a neighbor who has a moose head on the wall.
Then I was struck by a personal epiphany: A. palmata should be called
MOOSE HORN coral!!
We need to address this serious misconception!
Is anybody out there with me??
John
