Vacant Position: Research Technician (coral reef ecology) - Central
Caribbean Marine Institute, Little Cayman Island
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Central Caribbean Marine Institute (CCMI) invites applications for a
full time research technician to assist a broad portfolio of coral reef
research in the Cayman Islands. The position would commence in June 2016 at
the Little Cayman Research Centre.

The individual we seek will assist research projects of CCMI scientists with
additional responsibilities for the maintenance of our coral restoration
nursery and oceanographic station, and participation in coral reef
biodiversity surveys. The position is heavily field focused, but from time
to time there will be a requirement to contribute to maintaining data bases,
data analysis and routine duties linked to maintaining the field station.
Participation in delivering education programs and assisting citizen
science projects will also be required. The position would suit a highly
organized self-starter, with the capacity to problem solve and ability to
adapt to flexible schedules. An attractive salary and employment conditions

SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
Degree in marine science or related field.
SCUBA certification (rescue or higher) and extensive diving experience
(preferably research diving experience)
Driving license
Demonstrated skills and experience in coral reef biodiversity surveys (AGRRA
preferred) with the ability to id common Caribbean coral reef taxa
(corals/sponges/algae/fish).
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including an ability to
work effectively within small teams.
Desirable
Ability to operate small boats
Knowledge of coral reef ecology
Experience and knowledge of coral reef restoration (coral nursery)
Experience in delivering, or assisting in the delivery of, educational
programs to varied audiences
