ERT Inc. is recruiting a *Coral Restoration Specialist

to support the NOAA Restoration Center* in St. Petersburg, Florida or
Silver Spring, MD.
The position will will support NOAA initiatives pertaining to the
conservation and restoration, health and resilience of coral reef habitats
for the NOAA Restoration Center. The position will support partnerships at
the national and global levels to ensure effective cross-collaboration
yielding innovations in coral restoration and recovery.
Specific duties include:
- Coordinating communication, administration, and logistics for the
Coral Reef Consortium (CRC).
- Developing and coordinating logistics and programming for this first
ever Global Conference on Coral Restoration and Interventions.
- Supporting the development and implementation of one or more
"challenge competitions" to inspire engineering innovations to assist in
scaling up coral reef restorations and conserving coral reefs in the face
of a changing climate.
- Supporting the coordination of coral efforts within the OHC and across
NOAA including the synthesis of complex, technical information into key
messages and communication materials highlighting the benefit of program
activities to coral habitat conservation and restoration.
- Assisting in the management of coral restoration team activities
including planning, implementation, and tracking of NOAA and NOAA partner
restoration projects.
*Required Skills *
1 year of specialized experience directly related to marine habitat
resources. Must have an understanding of issues in environmental policy,
ecology, coastal and marine ecosystems, and coral reef restoration.
Requires a technical understanding of coral reef restoration, and habitat
conservation including natural resource management, coastal and marine
biology, and ecology; knowledge of marine and coral reef ecology,
monitoring, and restoration techniques; experience working with a diverse
set of partners and stakeholders; and experience organizing meetings and
events. Must have demonstrated effective written and oral communication
skills with experience in assimilating complex information into a concise
issue paper or talking points using a variety of styles including
scientific and plain language for multiple internal and external audiences.
Must have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; be
self-driven, proactive, and capable of setting workload priorities; and
have the capability to perform under dynamic and potentially competing
priorities to meet deadlines.
Preferred skills include:
- Knowledge of techniques to plan, analyze, and create visual
communication materials that are appealing and effective in presenting
ideas to the targeted audience.
- Designing web-based training materials or guides (i.e., e-learning,
video, or other format).
- Collation of scientific materials from a variety of sources and
developing best-practice guides or consensus recommendations.
- Experience with collaboration software, e.g. Teamwork.
- Experience conducting fieldwork underwater, preferably coral reef
restoration, research, or monitoring.
- Ability to become and maintain status as a NOAA Scientific Diver or a
program that has American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS)
reciprocity, if deemed to be necessary.
Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident and be able to pass a background
investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government
facility.
*Education *
BS in Marine Science/Biology, Fisheries Science, Ecology, related field or
equivalent.
