Position Summary:
To provide Laboratory Technician support to the center affiliated PIs and
center funded projects. The daily tasks include interactions with diverse
researchers and preparation of Next Generation Sequencing libraries for
modern sequencing platforms (e.g., Illumina).
Major Responsibilities:
- Able to collaborate in an international framework with a team-oriented
work ethic.
- Sample preparation, quantification, and quality control
- Generate high quality sequencing libraries (e.g., PE, RNAseq,
bisulfite, and amplicon Illumina libraries)
- Quality assessment of libraries
- Participate on lab related projects and training as assigned
- Analyze process procedures and provide feedback for their optimization
and
- Consult on research projects with our in-house sequencing core facility
- Document processes and improvements to methods
- Develop, assess, and adapt new technologies, protocols, and software
- Perform and assist RSRC members with standard molecular biology
methods (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, WB, IHC, etc.)
- Conduct and support molecular biological analyses as needed
- Report quarterly on jobs completed
Competencies:
- Solid knowledge and handling skills of molecular biology background.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Provide basic equipment/facility/computational training to users
- Be able to develop and write SOPs
- Be well versed in general laboratory skills such as following safety
procedures and SOPs, neatness, documentation, following written methods and
instructions from the supervisor.
- Have solid written and oral communication skills in English
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science/Engineering with Molecular Biology, Biotechnology,
or related field with laboratory experience
- Master of Science/Engineering preferred
- Total of 5 years experience, in which 3 years with NGS library
preparation (preferably Illumina) Preferred: Prior work experience as a
molecular laboratory technician
- Experience in working in a molecular laboratory
- Preparation of Next Generation Sequencing libraries for modern
sequencing platforms (e.g., Illumina).
